About 7 years ago, Terry made the move to Sun Lakes, drawn by the lifestyle and promise of a vibrant, active community. Like many who settle here, she quickly immersed herself in everything the community had to offer, from social events to pickleball and long days on the golf course.
But when the pandemic hit, life changed. Golf was the first to go. Then, following a physical injury, she had to give up pickleball, too. The sudden shift and a personal wake-up call left her feeling disconnected from the life she had built. For someone as active and involved as Terry, this was a hard adjustment. Yet, as it often does, a challenge becomes a turning point.
Terry found herself reflecting on what mattered. She began to ask herself: “How can I contribute? How can I feel that connection again?” That’s when she remembered Neighbors Who Care. Friends and neighbors had mentioned the organization over the years, and now the name kept coming back to her.
She picked up the phone and called the NWC office. That conversation changed everything. As she spoke with the team, something inside her lit up. She realized she wasn’t just looking for something to do… she was looking for a way to make a difference. By the end of the call, she had made the decision: she would join the NWC volunteer team.
Terry signed up for the orientation, unsure of what to expect. She came in cautiously, with an open mind and a hopeful heart. What she found exceeded all expectations. During the session, she learned the history of Neighbors Who Care and was introduced to all the services the organization offers. As she heard stories of the clients and the lives touched by volunteers, she was brought to tears. The depth of care, the level of organization, and the real human impact left her deeply moved. This, she thought, is where I’m meant to be.
After orientation, Terry received one-on-one training with the NWC Volunteer Manager, a personalized session that left her feeling confident and eager to help. She was no longer just a resident of Sun Lakes; she was now part of a mission-driven team working to lift up her neighbors in need.
Helping others isn’t new to Terry. She’s been in sales her entire life, starting at just 10 years old, selling Christmas cards door to door. That early entrepreneurial spirit evolved into a successful career in real estate right here in Arizona, where she helped people find more than just houses; she helped them find homes.
Born and raised in a small town near the Colorado border, Terry is the oldest of five siblings, all but one now living in Arizona. These days, she shares her Sun Lakes home with her two sweet little pups, Sassy and Sunny, who bring her joy and keep her on her toes.
Terry is immensely grateful to be part of Neighbors Who Care. She’s found purpose, connection, and the joy of making a difference.
