SANDY DAVIDSON

I live alone and can no longer drive. I need a little help getting my groceries and going to my doctor appointments. I also struggle with loneliness. I very much enjoy my Friendly Visits from a Neighbors Who Care volunteer and it has been so uplifting and helpful. They visit with me as well as bring me to my doctor appointments, take me grocery shopping. I’m so grateful for the help because otherwise I’d not be able to stay living in my home with my dogs.

I have been a client of NWC since 2017. I have Parkinson’s and three bulging discs so I don’t drive. NWC has taken me to my regular primary care doctor, speech therapy, physical therapy, neurological appointments and Barrows hospital for the last three years. Because NWC helps me get my treatments, I am still able to enjoy living alone and my hobby of cross stitching.

I was a career Army veteran who sustained a traumatic brain injury after a bike accident. In our household, I do most of the physical caregiving and my wife does most of the mental caregiving. With the weekly help we get from NWC we are still able to live independently. We could not do this without NWC.

For over 20 years we have fulfilled our vision of providing volunteers to support our elderly and disabled neighbors, allowing them to remain independent in their own homes. This is not possible without the financial support of the community and our partners.

Almost 85% of our funding comes directly from the local community (individuals, community groups, businesses, and congregations).

Our low administrative overhead and volunteer-based service model allow us to provide more than than $3 in direct client services for every $1 donated.
