Ron Mancuso: 15 Years of Dedicated Service!

Ron had a long career working in many industries bringing him pride in his accomplishments.  He started working for Anheuser Bush then moved to American Airlines where he became a Terminal Manager at JFK International Airport.  This career path took him to many exciting places as he had a sought-after skillset.  Ron holds pride in the fact that he had a hand in helping build a cargo terminal in Turkey.  Eventually, American Airlines wanted him to move to either LA or Boston, so Ron decided it was time to take advantage of early retirement allowing him to stay in Florida.  Too young to fully retire he started his next adventure with Walgreens and that position eventually led him to move to Sun Lakes in 2006.  Working for Walgreens proved to be very stressful and unfortunately, Ron suffered a string of heart attacks so he decided it was time to fully retire.

Ron was not one to sit idle and he started looking for additional opportunities that would keep him busy in retirement and give back to the community he had grown to love.   He had heard about Neighbors Who Cares and decided to become a volunteer.  That was 15 years ago, and happily, Ron is still supporting the Neighbors Who Care mission.  His favorite service is delivering dinners to our neighbors in need.  Every week Ron arrives at the Neighbors Who Care office to pick up the prepared dinners and starts his 25-mile journey.  Because Ron has been delivering for so long he has developed a system for his deliveries that includes finding time to stop and chat with many of our clients.  He does this because he knows this might be the only interaction they have with someone all day.   Ron feels good about providing the most basic of needs for our clients, companionship, and food.

Ron is a lifelong volunteer at Saint Steven’s Catholic Church, where he delivers communion to those who can no longer attend church services in person, He also prepares meals for St. Vincent de Paul and he is an active member of the Knights of Columbus.

This month we celebrate Neighbors Who Care 30th anniversary and Ron has been a big part of our history. 15 years of service what an accomplishment!  Ron’s dedication to his neighbors is truly wonderful and something we can all be thankful for.  Thank you, Ron, for years of dedication to Neighbors Helping Neighbors!
