Change is coming to Neighbors Who Care: New Office Manager, Laura Zeiner, joins the Sun Lakes-based agency
For more than a decade, NWC Director of Administration Verna Mahnke has served at command central: Neighbors Who Care’s front office. Her kind demeanor has welcomed new volunteers and clients into our world, while she also did our bookkeeping, payroll, front office scheduling and training, and so much more. And in her last act for us, she will be onboarding the newest member of our staff to be office manager.
Please say hello to Laura Zeiner…
Laura Zeiner
An Illinois native, Laura says she may have been born in Illinois, but Arizona is the only real home she remembers, having arrived here at age 3. Growing up in Phoenix, she graduated from Cortez High School where she emerged with a strong desire to work in health care. After high school, Laura became an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), and before long, she joined integrated behavioral health care organization, TERROS. And for more than 32 years, she served in various roles there helping in many different ways and learning a broad spectrum of skills. When she left TERROS, she was working with their events.
Later in her career, when her children were becoming college age, Laura began working in the Law Offices of ASU, eventually entering the president’s office staff team. For seven years, her work expanded multiple skill levels and eventually, her interest shifted toward wanting to return to her roots of a vocation that involved wanting to help people. And, as the wife of a retired Phoenix police lieutenant reaching retirement age, she began thinking of her next gig. As a couple, Laura and husband, Clint, decided it was time to dip their toes into retirement living and moved from Chandler to IronOaks settling in Oakwood in 2021.
Today, Clint and Laura are part of the Sun Lakes community. She joined us at just the right time to give Verna Mahnke, NWC’s Director of Administration, comfort in knowing she can begin planning her retirement.
“I am so excited to be a part of the Neighbors Who Care family,” Laura said.
“I want to be of service and I love being part of a team, and NWC’s team of staff, volunteers, and clients have overwhelmingly welcomed me and graciously made me feel comfortable and at home. I can’t wait to get to know more of the people who make up the NWC community.”
