For nearly two decades, Jerry and Randi have been the heart and hands of Neighbors Who Care. A couple whose quiet dedication and lasting impact have helped shape the organization into what it is today. Their story is one of service, community, and compassion, a perfect reflection of the mission they’ve supported for almost 20 years. Both Jerry and Randi grew up in Oregon. Before calling Sun Lakes home, they built a life together in Portland, a Chicago Suburb, Scottsdale, & Southern California (twice). Jerry spent over 30 years in the commercial insurance business in the various states. Randi worked for a large bank until their first son was born after which she devoted herself to raising their two sons and serving her community through various volunteer work. In 2006, Jerry decided it was time to retire, and they chose to move back to Arizona… a move that would lead them to Sun Lakes and Neighbors Who Care.
A Life of Service:
Service has always been at the heart of who Randi is.  Over the years, she has volunteered with a legal aid office, the PTA, the library, and a hospital.  But she’ll tell you that her favorite place to volunteer has definitely been Neighbors Who Care.  “When I first started, the schedulers and receptionists didn’t even have computers,” she recalls with a laugh.  Everything was done with paper and pencil.  Each client and volunteer was logged into a book, and every appointment was made through a personal call.  Nothing was quick and easy, but we made it work.  When NWC transitioned from paper records to a computerized system, the change was challenging for many long-time volunteers.  But Randi adapted quickly.   As a scheduler, she thrived and quickly adapted to the new way of doing things.
Jerry’s Helping Hands:
Jerry’s contribution has been equally remarkable. Over the years, he’s done just about everything from driving the van and transporting clients to medical appointments to performing minor repairs and lending his handyman skills to the office wherever needed. He also served as Chairman of the Board, providing leadership and vision to help the organization adapt and grow.
When NWC transitioned from a rental home location to its current location, Jerry was there every step of the way. “NWC bought the building with the support of our volunteers and the community in less than five years,” he remembers proudly. Jerry personally worked on the post build-out, installing everything from ceiling fans to door locks, making sure the new office was ready to serve clients for years to come.
A Life Well Lived:
Married for 53 years, Jerry and Randi share not just a life of service, but one filled with love, laughter, and adventure.  Arizona has been a good fit for retirement.  They enjoy spending time with their three grandkids and traveling together, including occasional cruises.  Jerry continues to tinker with his wood working and stained-glass artistry, while Randi stays busy playing tennis, golf, Mahjong, and working on various craft project.
Nearly 20 Years and Counting:
Jerry and Randi’s nearly 20 years of volunteer service stand as a testament to what can happen when people give their time and talents selflessly. They have witnessed Neighbors Who Care grow from a small, paper-driven operation to a thriving organization that continues to change lives daily. Through every transition, challenge, and milestone, Jerry and Randi have remained constants, showing up with smiles, compassion, and the willingness to do whatever needs to be done.
Their dedication reminds us all that Neighbors Who Care isn’t just a name… it’s a way of life… in serving others.
