Neighborly Hearts: Bringing Connection to Aging Neighbors

February is a month filled with reminders of love and one of the most meaningful ways to show it is by sharing your time and presence with someone who needs it most. Through Neighbors Who Care’s Friendly Visiting Program, you can make a lasting difference in the life of an aging neighbor who may be feeling isolated or alone.

At Neighbors Who Care, our mission is to help homebound seniors maintain their independence for up to five additional years. One powerful way our volunteers make that possible is by offering companionship—combating loneliness, easing isolation, and bringing comfort to those who can no longer easily get out into the community.

The beauty of Friendly Visiting is its simplicity. No special skills are required. All you need is a caring heart and a willingness to connect one-on-one through conversation and presence in a client’s home. We ask volunteers to commit to weekly visits, allowing meaningful relationships to grow over time.

If you enjoy listening, sharing stories, and building genuine connections, this program may be the perfect way for you to show love in action.

How it works:

  • Neighbors Who Care thoughtfully matches volunteers with clients.
  • Volunteers receive helpful background information, including interests, history, and health considerations.
  • Once matched, volunteers reach out to the client to introduce themselves and set a mutually convenient visit time.
  • Volunteers keep our office informed of visits and alert us to any notable physical, emotional, or safety concerns they observe.

This February, let love look like kindness, consistency, and connection. A simple visit can mean the world to someone who may go days without seeing another person.
