Eric Ehst, Executive Director
Eric has a distinguished history of civic service and nonprofit management. He has served as an officer or board member for multiple local organizations including the Valley Citizens’ League, Arizona Advocacy Network, Arizona Conservation Alliance, and Arizona Editorial Forum. He has also served on the Arizona boards of respected national organizations such as the League of Women Voters and the National Organization for Women, where he became the first male state president in the organization’s history. Eric served for three years as executive director of the Clean Elections Institute, becoming a nationally recognized expert on Arizona election law and the initiative and referendum (ballot proposition) process. He served as the election administrator and lead trainer at the southwest regional polling site for the 2011 South Sudan Independence Referendum, performing a major function in the democratic process leading to the peaceful creation of the world’s newest independent nation. Prior to turning full time to civic service, Eric, an Air Force veteran, had a successful 25 year career as an aerospace engineer, designing and testing jet engines for both military and civilian applications.
Carol Bowers, Volunteer Services Coordinator
Carol comes to NWC after years of experience at Risen Savior Lutheran Church recruiting, equipping and placing people as volunteers in the church’s ministries where she is a Lutheran Deaconess. Many folks still call her Sister Carol. Her long years of working with people in all sorts of situations, give Carol wisdom and strength for NWC as she promotes and welcomes the many volunteers who make NWC a very special movement and an example to others to be neighborly.
Bonnie Kosar, Case Manager
Bonnie received her Social Work degree from the University of Regina in Canada. She moved with her family to AZ in 1998 and has served as the Case Manager for Neighbors Who Care since 2003. As Case Manager she is responsible for determining clients’ needs and how NWC can best meet those needs. She facilitates a weekly Caregiver Support Group and is a certified Master Trainer for the Powerful Tools for Caregiver Program.
Joan Byrnes, Dinner Delivery Coordinator
Joan moved to Arizona in 1998 from New Jersey. She started to work at Neighbors Who Care in 2011. Besides holding the position of Dinner Delivery Coordinator for Neighbors Who Care, she is a Charter Member of the Sun Lakes Breakfast Lions Club. Joan is also an active Realtor with Realty ONE Group and holds the Real Estate designation of Seniors Real Estate Specialist.
Verna Mahnke, Office Coordinator
Verna moved from Aurora, Colorado where she lived for 20 years. She is a hands-on professional with over 25 years Office Management and Customer Service in diverse areas which include Computer Technology, HR, Training, Retail Tax Service Operations, and Accounting. Her desire is to become an active member of the community and is excited to be on the staff of “Neighbors Who Care” working with all the volunteers and serving the clients.
